Abstract

576,917. Building walls. SMALLEY, T. W. April 3, 1944, No. 6126. [Class 20 (iv)] In a building the main walls are formed by spaced apart slabs forming an uninterrupted cavity wall on a foundation adapted to receive the lower ends of the slabs and having a securing and locating device incorporated in the inner or outer slab during manufacture and an aperture in the outer or inner wall through which a co-operating part of the device is inserted to secure the slabs in spaced disposition. As shown, an outer slab a has a securing device comprising a nut e' fixed in a distance member e having lateral extensions e<2> embedded in it, the nuts co-operating with a bolt d which passes through an aperture a' in a second slab a, the two slabs being held in spaced relationship on a foundation c having grooves c' adapted to receive them. A rag-bolt g may co-operate with a nut h to secure a beam to the end of a slab. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown) the securing device is solid and is internally screwed to receive a bolt. The aperture a' may be enlarged at the side receiving the bolt head to allow access of a spanner, the recess afterwards being filled with cement fush with the surface.
