Abstract

576,473. Thermal switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BRANSON, W. G., and STRONG, R. W. May 14, 1943, No. 7714. [Class 38 (v)] A glow discharge switch comprises a pair of rigid electrodes 2, 6, to one of which one end of a U-shaped bimetal strip 1 is attached. A spring wire 3 having a V-shaped portion 4 is secured to the free end of the bimetal strip, which when heated by the glow discharge causes the portion 4 to ride over an obstruction 7 and snap in between it and a rigid wire 5 secured to the electrode 6, so as to short circuit the glow discharge. Similarly on cooling, the return of the bimetal strip is delayed by the V-portion and the obstruction.
