Abstract

576,096. Magnetrons. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and HICKIN, E. M. Sept. 21, 1942, No. 13304. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] A magnetic field for a magnetron 5 is provided by C-shaped permanent magnets 1, 1<1> hinged together at 3 so that the intensity of the field may be adjusted by rotation of one or both magnets about the hinge pin. The magnets may be adjusted by a cam, but in the construction shown, adjustment is effected by screws 9, 9<1> which press against a brass casing 4 surrounding the envelope of the magnetron and which are threaded into the ends of a leaf spring 7 held to the magnets by clips 8, 8<1> and urging the free ends of the magnets together. To preserve the direction of the field as the spacing of the free ends of the magnets is varied, iron inserts 6, 6<1> may be let into opposite sides of the casing.
