[Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A cylinder liner or insert a shorter than the cylinder length, has a circumferential groove or recess d formed on its internal surface to receive a metallic filling e having hard wear properties. The filling may have an ultimate thickness of .005 inch and its ends be protected from damage by the shoulders formed at the ends of the groove. The liner is disposed in a counterbore at the inner end of the cylinder and a second liner flush with the first completes the covering of the inside of the cylinder.
