Abstract
575,916. Bore-hole pumps. STOW, G. R. S. April 21, 1944, No. 7413. [Class 102 (i)] A double acting bore-hole pump comprises co-axial barrel members 1, 2, Fig. 1, held by ribs 3, 6, Fig. 3, to give semi-annular spaces 4, 5, a solid piston 10 reciprocated between upper and lower valve assemblies mounted in conical seatings 7, 12 and a strainer 27 which together with piston and valve assemblies can be fitted to or taken from the pump barrel when the latter is in position at the well bottom. In action the downward stroke of the piston displaces liquid past opening 19 in the lower valve assembly and valves 20 and through associated ports 21, 22 into the space 4 and thence to the rising main. Simultaneously liquid from the strainer passes valves 26, ports 28, 29, Fig. 5, and space 5 to occupy the space behind the piston which liquid on the upward stroke passes valve 9 in the upper assembly to the rising main. At 'the same time liquid passes the valve 26a and opening 17, 19 to the space below the piston.
