[Class 146 (ii)] A seal, which is especially applicable to prevent tampering with cars, comprises a locking strip C the ends of which are secured'in a casing B formed of two parts 10, 11 which are connected together by means of stamping dies 27, 28, Fig. 9, after the ends of the strip C have been secured together in the part 11 of the casing by means of split rings 19. The part 11 is threaded by means of a slotted aperture 12 over the slotted tongue 20 of the strip C and is made to enclose a locking head 13 formed of the bent-over part 13, 16, 14 of the other end of the strip to which it is secured by a ring 19 passed through a slot 18 in the tubular end 16 and slots 15 in the parts 13, 14. The part 14 extends from the part 11 as shown in Fig. 1 and serves as a guide for the tongue 20 which is passed into the casing so that it may also be held by a ring 19 which is passed through an orifice 21 in the tongue. The parts 10, 11 of the casing are now secured by means of the dies 27, 28, Fig. 9, which force the flange 25, Fig. 2, of the part 10 around a flared end 26 of the part 11 so as to form a seam connecting the two parts, and at the same time the extremity of the flange 25 is projected as at 26 so as to engage side notches 22 formed in the locking head 13 of the strip C, which is thus securely held to the casing B. The flange may cut into the locking- head, or coact with projections thereon so as to effect the junction of the head 13 and casing in other ways.
