574,706. Pivot bearings. BRAITHWAITE, R. C., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL Co., Ltd. May 28, 1940, No. 9376. [Class 65 (ii)] A low-friction pivot bearing for use in connecting links of philosophical &c. instruments comprises a stirrup 7 of relatively light spring material having aligned apertures for the conical ends 6 of the pivot, and a relatively stronger stirrup 8 embracing and strengthening 7, but normally clear of it. A second bearing may be arranged at right angles to the first, forming a Hookes' joint. The link 3 is attached to the lower bearing by a rod 3a passed through the parts 7a of the stirrups and provided with a head 3b and a spring 9. A similar pair of bearings may be attached to the lower end of the rod 3.
