Abstract
574,542. Calculating - apparatus. WINGATE, J. L. Jan. 3, 1930, No. 284. [Class 106 (i)] A calculator for use on aircraft for correcting wind speed and direction errors comprises a disc 1 graduated radially and circumferentially for wind speed and direction, an arrow 5 pivoted about the centre of the disc, and a double-ended pointer 7, 8 rotatably connected at their mid points 12, 13 by links 10, 11 to a slide 6 on the arrow. The pivot 14 of the links on the slide 6 and the ends of pointers 7, 8 lie on a straight line and the arrangement is such that if the arm 5 is set to represent the known wind direction, the slide 6 is set to represent half the wind speed and the pointer 7 is set to a point corresponding to an observed bomb burst (or the mean point of bursts) on a target represented by the pivot 4 of the arrow, the pointer 8 will register the true wind speed and direction.
