Abstract

574,450. Cooling radiators for motor vehicles- STEADMAN, C. S., COLTMAN, J. L., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 20, 1942, No. 2272. [Class 64 (iii)] A matrix built up of thin-walled tubular water passages 4 with intermediate corrugated strips 5 forming transverse air passages is assembled with its water passages projecting into a header frame and spaced apart by plates 14 which are held in sliding engagement with the inside of the frame by guide members 11 or by tongues, one end 9 of the frame being removed to allow insertion of the guide members. After the elements and frame are assembled, the end of the frame is secured in position and the whole is bonded together by soldering or brazing. The top of the header is then secured to the frame. The spacing plates 14 are of channel section between the water passages and they may be secured to the frame by riveting or by spotwelding.
