Abstract

574,231. Electric hot plates. MARRIOTT, C. W. Nov. 23, 1943, No. 19542. [Class 39 (iii)] A helical resistance wire 9 is placed in channels in a plate 6 and embedded in insulation 11 which also fills the space between rim 7 and boss 8. A closing plate 12 of slightly larger dimensions than the annular space in the hot plate is forced in under substantial pressure so that its edges bite into the metal of the hot plate, and the heating element and its packing are sealed. Buckling of the plate 6 due to warping of the rim 7 is prevented by forming the plate 6 with pressed radial ribs 13. In a modification, the closing plate 12 extends to an inner depending rim instead of to the boss 8, and at its outer edge is provided with locking tongues which are forced over lugs on the rim 7.
