Abstract
Ethylene is made by the thermal dehydrogenation of ethane mixed with a larger volume of hydrogen, by heating the mixture under atmospheric pressure in the absence of a catalyst to not less than 700 DEG C. for not more than 15 seconds and varying inversely with the temperature to a maximum of 2 seconds at 850 DEG C. The mixture may be that obtained by the low-temperature carbonisation of coal. Specification 416,921 is referred to.
