573,753. Clearing land mines; cutting wire; excavating earth &c. DU TOIT, A. S. J. March 24, 1942, No. 3923. [Classes 9 (ii), 68 (i) and 119] A frame b attached to the front of an armoured vehicle a carries a rotary member e with arms g, g<2> to which are attached by links i and bars k a series of chains l or like flexible members which beat the ground surface to explode land mines. The member e is driven through worm gear r' and shaft r from a motor q on the vehicle a and the frame b can be pivotally raised and lowered by a hydraulic jack s. Cross-bars h carried by arms g<1> on the rotor e may be used for breaking down and removing the earth forming tank traps, and other arms may carry wire-cutters t reciprocated transversely by links operated by an eccentric on the rotor e. The end flanges f of the rotor e carry cams u for operating wire-cutters u<1> arranged at the front end of the frame b.
