Abstract

565,914. Trench diggers. HENDERSON, W. M. July 1, 1943, No. 10681. [Class 6 (i)] Trenches are excavated by a rotary implement 20 associated with means for depositing the displaced material in advance of the implement, and further means for moving the material to one side of the line of travel of the implement. The apparatus is coupled at its forward end to a tractor or the like 26 having lifting and sustaining gear and driving gearing 25 for the various members. The rotor 20 is formed with radial blades 24 rotating in the opposite direction to the wheels of the tractor &c., thus lifting a slice of soil which is pushed forwardly by the scraper 38 and then diverted by the arm 43. The power take-off shaft 25 transmits movement through a crank-shaft 28, crank 31 and connecting rods 32 to a pair of arms 29, each with a pawl 30 effecting intermittent movement of the rotor 20. The scraper 38 and the arm 43 also derive their movement from the arms 29, the scraper being mounted on arms 39 pivoted directly to the arms 29 and the arm 43 connected through the linkwork 45, 47, 46, 48, 44. Forward movement of the apparatus is provided by the winding up of a winch 34, the cable 37 from which is attached to a point ahead in the line of travel. Another winch 50 acting on the main frame 27 of the implement regulates working depth and lifts the implement clear of the ground when necessary.
