Abstract
572,288. Permutation locks. DARSA, H. March 3, 1944, No. 4023. [Class 44] In a permutation lock of the kind in which a bolt is slidable axially through apertured coaxially-arranged locking discs, each disc has a pair of radial recesses 17 slidally housing pins 18 which fall inwards under gravity when the disc is in locking position so that their inner ends engage an annular groove in the bolt. As described the pins are 120 degrees apart, both falling into locking position when inclined at 30 degrees above horizontal, and out of locking position at 30 degrees below horizontal. The recesses and pins may be conical as shown, or the outer ends of the pins may be flanged, to prevent them leaving 'the recesses. Fig. 3 shows the disc made in two parts 15, 16, the former having the recesses which are outwardly closed by the latter. The lock is applicable generally but is particularly described as applied to locking a cycle-wheel. Fig. 2 shows the discs 10 mounted between the limbs of a bracket 12 secured to a member 14 clamped to the fork or frame 13, member 12 preferably being pivotally adjustable on member 14. The bolt 11 is shown projecting between wheel spokes 23. When the bolt is retracted a pivoted arm 22 on member 12 may be turned down to prevent the bolt from accidentally engaging the spokes.
