Abstract

571,775. Photo-electric apparatus for use with measuring instruments. MORRIS MOTORS, Ltd., and SKINNER, P. G. Dec. 8, 1943, No. 20525. [Class 40 (iii)] In apparatus in which the movement of a feeder c following the surface of a workpiece b is linked to a reflector g reflecting light from a source i on to a pair of photo-electric cells m, variations of the source i are compensated by a second reflector p movable under control of the voltage exciting the source i so as to deflect the light beam in a direction at right angles to the deflection produced by the reflector g. The reflector p may, for example, be connected to a moving coil q excited in parallel with the source i or may be operated electrostatically. The cells m are connected in opposition to a circuit containing a variable resistance and a galvanometer, Fig. 2 (not shown), which thus responds to the difference in illumination of the two cells.
