664,788. Radiometric pressure gauges. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 2, 1950 [May 16, 1949], No. 13022/49. Class 40 (iii). [Also in Group XIX] The invention relates to a manometer of the Knudsen type in which a light vane 1 suspended by a filar suspension has its ends arranged between plates 4 and 5 maintained respectively hot and cold by liquid in pipes 6 so that the vane is rotated, the angular deflection being a measure of the gas pressure in space 3. According to the invention, the vane carries with it a coil 7 moving in a magnetic field, the current in the coil being controlled by photo-cells to which light is reflected from a mirror carried by the vane. The current direction is such as to tend to restore the vane to its original position the current in the equilibrium position being a measure of gas pressure. In the circuit shown in Fig. 2, photo-cells 12 and 13 illuminated differentially control the potential of the grid of a triode 10 thereby altering the cathode potential developed across resistor 11. A current then flows between a fixed potential point A and the cathode, part of the drop through a voltage divider 19 being tapped to feed the vane restoring coil 7. In the equilibrium position the pressure is indicated by meter 17.
