Abstract

Sulphanilyl guanidine is prepared by the reaction of sulphanilyl fluoride with guanidine. In place of guanidine itself derivatives thereof such as alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl substituted guanidines may be employed. It is preferred to react the guanidine in the form of a salt such as the sulphate or nitrate in the presence of a solvent and of caustic alkali or other suitable acid acceptor. In examples: (1) an acetone solution of sulphanilyl fluoride is added to a solution of guanidine sulphate in sodium hydroxide to give sulphanilyl guanidine; (2) the same compound is made by adding a pyridine solution of sulphanilyl fluoride to a solution of guanidine nitrate in sodium hydroxide.
