Abstract

Novel compounds of formula <FORM:1082466/C2/1> in which each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 represents an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1-4 carbon atoms, a halogen atom or trifluoromethyl group, n is 1 or 2, and each of m, p, q, and r represents zero or 1, provided that not all of them represent zero, are prepared (1) when n is 1, by reducing a 2-nitrophenylacetic acid alkyl ester to the 2 -aminophenylacetic acid alkyl ester, acylating this compound and hydrolysing the 2-benzamidophenylacetic acid alkyl ester formed; or (2) when n is 2, by hydrolysing a 3,4-dihydrocarbostyril with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide to give the alkali metal salt of a b -(2-aminophenyl)-propionic acid, and acylating this salt.
