Abstract
571,299. Reheating furnaces. PRIEST, C. F. Jan. 4, 1944, No. 126. [Class 51 (ii)] In a reheating furnace heated by the circulation of hot air without admixed combustion products, the air is supplied from an overhead conduit 16 through branches 17 to roof cavities 13 formed between superposed arches 11, 12, the latter having radial passages 15 through which the hot air passes downwardly into the heating chamber 10 to escape therefrom through floor openings 22, fitted with dampers 23, to a base flue 20. The circulation of the air is effected by a fan 26 connected on the inlet side by a passage 24 to the flue 20 and on the outlet side to a flue 25 which delivers the air to a heater 19 connected to the conduit 16. Adjacent to the fan 26 there are provided a vent 31, through which some of the air may be exhausted to atmosphere when desired, and a fresh air inlet 32. The invention is shown applied to a continuous tunnel furnace through which the charge is conveyed on trucks 30 and from which the trucks pass into a cooling chamber 33 having, around the sides and roof, air jackets 34 fitted with baffles 35; these jackets are connected by pipes 37 to the inlet of a fan 38 which delivers the air heated in the jackets by the outgoing charge by a pipe 40 to the fresh air inlet 32 of the furnace heating system.
