[Class 78 (iv)] In apparatus for loading and unloading vehicles of the kind in which packages are transferred from a loading deck to a vehicle provided with a movable flexible floor by a belt conveyer which is mounted in the deck and driven synchronously with the floor, the supporting rollers 12, Fig. 6, for the belt are arranged in rows with the rollers of alternate rows staggered in relation to those of the adjacent intermediate row. Each belt 4, Fig. 1, is mounted in a cavity 9, Fig. 5, in the deck 1 on supporting rollers 12 and is wound on drums 14, 15 arranged below and behind the end supporting rollers, 20, 21. Since the floor 2 of the vehicle 3 is wound on a similarly disposed roller 32, there is only a small gap between the belt 4 and the floor when the vehicle is positioned, properly against the deck. The ends of the belt and floor are maintained at the same level during loading by the engagement.of a roller 41 mounted on the vehicle with a support 40 attached to the front edge of the deck. The frames supporting the belts 4 may be carried by screw jacks, or power-actuated rams, to permit adjustment.
