Abstract
1352919 Stretchers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 July 1971 [11 July 1970] 32168/71 Heading A5X [Also in Division B8] A stretcher with a mechanism by which a patient may be loaded onto the stretcher, either over an end or a side of the stretcher while the stretcher moves under the patient comprises a frame carrying two upper parallel guides 4, 5, one at each end of the frame, and at least two parallel lower guides 6, 7; a first belt portion 9 capable of supporting a human body and which is adapted to move over the said upper guides; a second belt portion 10 which is adapted to contact the ground and engage with the lower guides; a coupling member 11, 12, 13 which is connected to both ends of each belt portion; and means for driving the coupling member so that the body supporting part of the first belt and the ground contacting part of the second belt can be moved simulaneously in the same direction with respect to the frame, and at the same speed. The upper and lower guides may be disposed transversely with respect to the frame to produce an end loading stretcher, or longitudinally with respect to the frame to produce a side loading stretcher. Figs. 1 and 3 show an end loading stretcher, the guides 4, 5, 6, 7 being rollers journalled into side plates 1 and 2. A plate 3 prevents the body supporting belt 9 from sagging. The rear ends of belts 9 and 10 are joined, and engage a roller 12, likewise, the front ends are joined and engage a roller 11. The rollers 11, 12 are journalled into members 13, said members being slideably mounted in slots 14 in the side plates 1, 2. The members 13 are driven, via a worm drive mechanism by a handle 20; rotation of the handle causing the members 13 to move in the slots 14, and thus causing belts 9 and 10 to move at the same speed and in the same direction. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1,311,860.
