Abstract
570,530. Work - holders. ADAMS, H. W., and WILD, L. C. Sept. 27, 1943, No. 15808. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A stand for supporting engine crank-shafts and like engine components whilst performing operations thereon, such as the fitting of bearings, consists of two pairs of legs 1, 2 braced by members 3 and spaced by members 4 which overlap and are secured by bolts 5 so as to adjust the length of the stand to suit the work A. A V-shaped bracket 6 for supporting one end of the work is attached to the apex of the legs 1 and the work is secured therein by a V-shaped pad 11 on a chain 10 anchored to one leg and attached to a slotted bracket 8 on the other leg by a screw and fly-nut 12. The bracket 6 is lined with fibre or other non- abrasive material and the pad 11 is formed of or lined with similar material. The other end of the work is supported by similar means on the legs 2, or a flange on the work may be bolted to a slotted angle bracket 13 attached to the legs. The stand may be built of angle iron or tubular or other section members which may be welded together or secured by bolts or other means, and a removable tray may be provided.
