Abstract
570,231. Cobaltic hydroxide. MOND NICKEL CO., Ltd., WALLIS. A. E. and WEST, D. H. Nov. 28, 1941, Nos. 15369/41 and 12531/42. [Class I (iii)] Nickel is removed from impure cobaltic hydroxide, for instance that obtained by the process of Specification 570,230, by digestion in an acid liquor containing at least one cobalt salt, which may be obtained from the precipitate itself by treatment with acid. The pH of the extracting solution may be between 0.9 and 2.0 and the solution and precipitate may flow in counter-current through a number of digestion vessels. Digestion may take place at 70‹C. or above, but when the acid is used to extract cobalt from the precipitate, this step may be carried out at a lower temperature in the presence of a reducing agent such as sulphur dioxide, sodium sulphite or bisulphite, or reduced cobalt oxide.
