Abstract
570,001. Safety razors. HEIDE, H. C. (Gillette Safety Razor Co.). Dec. 9, 1943, No. 20596. [Class 30] The cap 15 and guard 10 of a safety razor are constantly urged to clamping position by a spring 20 mounted in the handle 13 and bearing against a nut 19 threaded on the end of a stem 18 secured to the cap. The cap is provided with a rib 16 and a boss 17 to position the blade which is of the kind having a slot open at one end to allow insertion and removal by endwise movement. To insert a blade, the nut 19 is unscrewed to the extent permitted by a stop screw 21 threaded into the end of the stem 18, and then by pressure on the end of the nut, the cap and clamp are separated against the action of the spring 20. The blade is inserted and the pressure removed so that the spring moves the cap towards the guard sufficiently to flex the blade so that the boss 17 enters a corresponding enlargement of the slot in the blade retaining the blade against endwise movement. The clamping is completed by operating the nut 19. The razor is particularly for use with blades protected by wrappers also having longitudinal slots open at one end, the blade with its wrapper being inserted as above described and, after the blade is held by the spring 20 and boss 17, the wrapper is withdrawn endwise. Such a wrapper blade is described in Specification 569,875.
