[Class 100 (ii)] Inking apparatus.-An inking apparatus, which is especially adapted for rotary intaglio cylinders 10 of different sizes, and is so constructed that the change of cylinders can be easily effected, is formed with an immersion trough 14 consisting of abutting sections 35, 36, at least one of which is movable relatively to the other. As shown the section 36 is movable about a pivot 38 when disconnected from a bracket 48 which normally supports the section 36. The section 35 is attached to the upper pivoted part 30 of a fountain which encloses the trough 14, and is formed with a bottom portion 11 containing ink which is delivered by a pump 41 via a pipe 44 and. ducts 52 to a chamber 46 secured to the part 30 of the fountain. The ink emerges from a slot 53 into the trough 14, and a baffle plate 60 is arranged at the top of the trough section 36, which prevents ink from passing it except through a narrow space adjacent to the cylinder, which is thus inked thoroughly. The part 30 is fitted with an adjustable cover plate 65 and a pivoted endplate 66 is provided at each end of the fountain. A scraper 17 and seal 18 are provided, and scraped ink may return via a slot 68 and screen 67 to the part 11 of the fountain. The parts 30, 35 may be pivoted outwardly to drain the trough 14, and during this operation a lip 32 prevents escape of ink from the fountain. The cylinder 10 may be replaced, and the chamber 46 cleaned when the part 30 is moved outwardly.
