522,397. Printing - machines. SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK KOENIG & BAUER AKT.- GES., and KLINGLER, K. Dec. 7, 1938, No. 35734. [Class 100 (ii)] Inking- apparatus. In an intaglio printing machine, the upper longitudinal edges of the ink trough 2 are disposed close to the cylinder 1 to leave gaps 6, 7 through which the ink is forced under pressure, the width of the gaps being substantially equal to the thickness of ink film to be applied to the cylinder. The thickness of this film may be varied by adjusting the height of the trough 2, e.g., by worm and rack gear. The upper edges of the trough may be provided with a protective covering of an artificial resin or may be provided with longitudinal bars of the same material. Ink is supplied to the trough by a pump and pipe 10 surplus ink returning by a pipe 16 to a reservoir. A horizontal perforated plate may be arranged in the trough to distribute the ink uniformly. The trough 2, cylinder 1 and doctor blade or blades may be enclosed in a housing 14 the upper portion of which is closed by cover plates 30, 31 pivoted to links 34 so that they can be moved laterally before being turned upwardly so as to clear the web 36<SP>1</SP>. Two doctor blades may be provided for use according to the direction of rotation of the cylinder. One or both walls 20, 21 of the housing 14 may be readily removable and for this purpose the wall carries pivot pins which may be axially moved against spring pressure to withdraw them from the pivot sockets in the adjacent stationary parts of the housing.
