Abstract

An abrasive article such as a grinding-wheel is bonded by means of a vulcanizate of a mixture of natural rubber and sulphur sufficient to vulcanize the rubber to hard rubber, and a synthetic rubber-like material which will cure irreversibly to a state resembling soft rubber, but not to a state comparable with hard rubber. The proportion of synthetic material to natural rubber may vary between 5 and 0.2 to 1. The synthetic materials specified are polymerized chloro-2-butadiene-1,3, a copolymer of a major proportion of isobutylene and a minor proportion of butadiene, an organic polysulphide polymer of the unit <FORM:0569076/IV/1> , and an organic polysulphide polymer of the unit <FORM:0569076/IV/2> , wherein the carbon atoms are joined by an intervening structure such as an ether linkage, unsaturated carbon atoms, an aromatic structure, or saturated straight-chain or branched-chain hydrocarbons.
