Abstract

568,906. Razors. HEIDE, H. C. (Gillette Safety Razor Co.). Oct. 19, 1943, No. 17199. [Class 30] In a magazine safety razor, the magazine forms a normal part of the shaving head and is removable therefrom, the magazine having associated therewith and removable therewith from the head, a blade-feeding device whereby the blades may be fed through an opening in the magazine into shaving position. The razor head comprises a base 12, a front wall 13 terminating in a guard 14, a back flange 18 and end ears 17, forming together a receptacle for the magazine which is of box form, with a slot-like opening between the top 23 of the box and the upper edge of the front wall 20 for the passage of the blades. The end walls 25 of the magazine are shaped to form guides for the blades which are pressed upwardly by a spring 26 and the ends of the top 23 fall short of the end walls 25 to provide spaces for feed fingers 34 projecting from the rear wall 31 of the bladefeeding device. This device embraces the top and bottom of the magazine so as to be movable from front to rear and is guided by open slots 38 engaging ribs 16 on the base 12 of the razor head and by closed slots 37 engaging projections on the bottom of the magazine. The ends 32 of the plate feeder are knurled to form finger grips for operating the feeder. The bottom of the magazine is provided with a boss engaging in a corresponding depression 15 in the base 12 and provided with a threaded hole to receive a screw 11 passing through the handle 10 whereby the magazine is removably clamped in the razor head. The magazine shown contains single-edged blades with end notches and when a blade is in shaving position the feed fingers are in engagement with the notches. To change a blade, the plate feeder is moved rearwardly so that the feed fingers engage the rear of the blade in use, and is then moved forwardly, completely ejecting the blade. It is then again drawn rearwardly and the fingers engage the notches of the next blade. Upon again pressing the feeder forwardly the blade is moved to shaving position. Specifications 561,912 and 561,913 are referred to.
