Abstract
568,743. Thermal power plants. AKT.-GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. July 30, 1943, No. 12398. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1942. [Class 7 (i)] A thermal power plant in which a gaseous working medium performs a cycle wherein the gas is first compressed then heated by an external source, then expanded in a turbine which drives the compressor and a source of useful power and finally returned to the compressor through a heat exchanger and a precooler, has the heat exchanger A and the precooler B arranged in a common shell 7. The expanded gas passes into the heat exchanger through an opening 1 passes through the precooler B in which water is circulated between inlet and outlet pipes 4, 5 respectively, and leaves the precooler through opening 6. The re-compressed gas is admitted through an opening- 2 and leaves through opening 3 after passing through a system of tubes 8. These tubes are secured in groups to flared members 9 connected by pipes 14, or directly to annular headers 10, 11. The tubes 12 of the precooler are transversely arranged and can be removed from the shell to the left, Fig. 1, after removing the water chambers C, D. A resilient seal in the form of a ring 13 is arranged between the tube rest 12 and the shell 7 to allow relative expansion movements between these parts.
