Abstract

462,710. Hot-air power plant. AKT.- GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. Jan. 1, 1936, No. 21103. Convention date, July 12, 1935. Divided application. [Class 7 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a turbine plant, air is heated in a furnace 2 and led to a turbine 3 which drives a multi-stage compressor 5 and an electric generator 4, the exhausted air passing to a heatexchanger 7 in which the air from the exhaust pipe 6 heats the compressed air entering from a pipe 9. The latter then passes through a pipe 8 to the furnace 2. The air pressure is kept above atmospheric throughout the cycle, and is approximately constant in the two streams flowing through the exchanger 7. The air passing from the turbine flows through the exchanger 7 at a greater velocity than the air from the compressor, which passes upwards through the exchanger. The velocities of the lowpressure and the high-pressure gases are approximately inversely proportional to the roots of the absolute pressures of the gases. The difference of temperature between the two gases in the exchanger 7 is kept below 70‹ C. Air exhausted from the turbine 3 has a pressure of at least 2 kg. per sq. cm. The pressure ratio between the re-compressed and the expanded media is not less than 2. The exchanger 7 may be in more than one part, the part at a lower temperature being made of steel or copper and the part at a high temperature of steel alloy. One system of tubes may replace the double-pipesystem 7<1>, 7<2>, one current of air flowing around the tubes.
