Abstract

567,695. Photographic sensitive materials. MURRAY, H. D. Aug. 21, 1943, Nos. 13663/43 and 3937/44. [Class 98 (ii)] A resin, other than a hard resin of high melting point (e.g. colophony, gum mastic, gum sandarac, or a phenol-formaldehyde resin), is applied to the back of photographic printing materials, before or after sensitizing, to prevent slipping on carrier bands of photographic printing-machines. The support may be tracing cloth, which may have been treated with starch or another filler, cellulose acetate, or regenerated cellulose. A solution of a resin in a non-aqueous solvent (e.g. a solution of gum mastic in alcohol) may be sprayed on to the back of the support. In modifications, the finely powdered resin may be rubbed into the back of the support, or a finely-divided suspension of the resin in water may be applied by rolling, dipping, or spraying. The suspension may contain a binder such as casein, gum arabic, or gelatine. One such suspension is prepared by adding a solution of gum mastic in industrial spirit to an aqueous solution of gum arabic. Another suspension is prepared by adding the solution prepared by boiling colophony with dilute caustic soda solution to an aqueous solution of sodium or ammonium caseinate. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 3605/00, 17471/01, 13472/04, 25922/05, [all in Class 98], 2622/14, 205,828, 324,340, [all in Class 98 (ii)], and 411,689.
