Abstract
Seeds are coated with a liquid adhesive containing active carbon for protection against herbicides. The seeds may be rolled between surfaces coated with a suspension of finely-divided active carbon in water containing gum or allowed to fall through a spray of the suspension or dipped in a paste consisting of 60 per cent by weight of active carbon and 40 per cent of a 2 per cent solution of gum tragacanth and then rolled in powdered active carbon, screened and dried at room temperature. Alternatively, the seeds may be coated with adhesive, e.g. a concentrated solution of gum arabic, and mixed with powdered active carbon, or wetted with water or other inert solvent for the adhesive and mixed with, or allowed to fall on, a mixture of active carbon and dry adhesive.
