Abstract
A self-sealing flexible tank, particularly for petrol, oil or water, is built up from super-imposed layers of flexible material, at least one of which consists of felt, the tank being proofed internally. In one form, a layer of felted wool cloth has applied to its inner surface a solution of synthetic resin known under the Registered Trade Mark "Formvai," and is built up to shape on a collapsable former; two similar layers are then applied thereto by said solution, butt joints being used in each layer, and the joints in adjacent layers being staggered. Two coats of red dope are then given to the outer surface and a handle may be attached. In another form, the layers of felt are built up over a layer of linen impregnated with synthetic resin. The resin solution may comprise 65 parts of Formvai in 35 parts of glyceryl diacetate with a trace of diphenyl amine; other solvents are trichlorethylene and a mixture of 70 parts of benzene with 30 parts of ethyl alcohol.
