Abstract
566,966. Internal-combustion power plant. AKTIEBOLAGET GOTAVERKEN, and OLSSON, J. July 16, 1943, No. 11616. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A number of internal-combustion engines 1, or other prime movers, which are adapted to drive a common shaft 4, are controlled as to starting, stopping, reversing, &c. by rotation one way or the other of a common operating member 9 connected through gearing 12, 13, 14, 15 and clutches 16 to the control shafts 17, Fig. 2, of each engine. The control shaft of any engine may be disengaged from the member g by releasing its clutch 16 by moving a handle 30 from the dotted to the full line position, thereby causing the disengagement of clutch members 33, 34 and this action may also open a switch 43, causing the opening of a switch 37 controlling an electric slip coupling 2 so that the engine in question is now completely detached from the shaft 4 and may be operated and reversed &c. by movement of the handle 30, which is pivoted to the shaft 17, in a direction to turn the shaft one way or the other. In the complete arrangement shown, when the plant is to be started, the control handles 30 of those engines that are to be used are moved into the dotted position. When an order is received by the engine-room telegraph 8, a wheel 50 is moved in a corresponding manner and serves to complete circuits through all the switches 43 of the selected engines to cause the closure of their switches 37 and the consequent energization of their clutches 2. The wheel 9 is then moved in accordance with the order, causing all the selected motors to move in forward or reverse direction. Specification 547,543 is referred to.
