Abstract

566,745. Polythene coating. WORRALL, G. W., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 25, 1943, No. 10287. [Class 95] A heated hollow article containing a melted composition comprising mainly normally solid polythene is inverted and the excess polythene drained out, leaving a coating of the composition on the inner surface of the hollow article. 5-10 times more polythene is melted than is to form the lining. It is preferred to shut out air during the melting operation by employing a cover, and during the draining operation by resting the inverted article on a tray. The hollow article may be a metal drum. The temperature of heating mentioned is 140‹ C. Instead of polythene alone, minor proportions of dyes, pigments, fillers and/or modifying agents, e.g. polyisobutylene, may be used in conjunction with polythene.
