Abstract
808,200. Coated regenerated cellulose films. BRITISH CELLOPHANE Ltd. Nov. 7, 1957 [Dec. 10, 1956], No. 37623/56. Class 140. Substantially clear polythene coated, cellulose ester/wax or cellulose ether/wax coated regenerated cellulose film is produced by applying a molten polythene film to one side of a regenerated cellulose film previously coated, at least on the side opposite to that to be coated with polythene, with a cellulose ester/wax or cellulose ether/wax composition, and then heating the side of the film opposite to that coated with polythene to such a temperature and for such a period of time that the opaque bloom is dispelled, prior to cooling the film. The coated regenerated cellulose film may be heated immediately after the polythene coating by means of radiant heat in a heat treatment zone to a temperature between 60 C. and a temperature at which distortions occur in the film, for a period of about one second. The cellulose ester or ether/ wax coated regenerated cellulose film may be coated with polythene as described in Specification 688,637. The cellulose ester may be nitrocellulose, the cellulose ether may be ethyl cellulose, and the wax may be paraffin wax. The regenerated cellulose may be pretreated with a urea-formaldehyde anchoring agent prior to coating with the cellulose ester or ether/wax composition.
