Abstract
In a process for protecting the heating surfaces of boiler and superheater tubes and economisers and oil and tar stills, the tubes are first cleansed and preferably roughened, coated preferably by spraying with an aluminium-cadmium alloy containing preferably not more than 2 per cent of cadmium, heated to between 650 DEG C. and 1200 DEG C., allowed to cool and finally coated with an aqueous suspension of hydrated lime. The thickness of the alloy coating is between 0.002 and 0.015 inch and the suspension of lime which may contain up to 25 per cent of organic materials, e.g. glue or size and colloids to assist in its dispersion is applied when the tubes are preferably at about 260 DEG C., though it may be applied when the tubes are cold.ALSO:In a process for protecting the heating surfaces of boiler and superheater tubes economisers and oil and tar stills, the tubes are first cleaned and preferably roughened coated preferably by spraying with an aluminium-cadmium alloy containing preferably not more than 2 per cent of cadmium, heated to between 650 DEG C. and 1200 DEG C., allowed to cool and finally coated with an aqueous suspension of hydrated lime.
