Abstract

566,508. Carriers for pneumatic despatch apparatus. LAMSON ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and BURL, H. April 13, 1943, No. 5912. [Class 78 (i)] A carrier 3 for conveying cash and small parcels or articles in pneumatic transmission systems is provided with one or more felt or like spacing rings 10 which space the carrier from the transmission tube, each ring being clamped between two sets of metal or other abutments 11, 12 formed on or applied to the carrier and so arranged that pressure may be applied to at least one set to hold the ring firmly against the other set and against the carrier body without the use of screws or the like passing through the ring. As shown, the abutment 11 is formed as a ring welded or otherwise fixed in position and the abutment 12 is formed as a flanged ring or plate detachably fitted over the end of the carrier. The spacing ring 10 is inserted between the abutments and the abutment 12 tightened, to grip the ring, by screws 14 which pass through a closure plate 16, a flange 15 on the end of the carrier, the abutment 12 and tapped insets 17 in the usual felt or like end buffer 4. The other end of the carrier is closed by a buffercarrying, hinged plate 6 which accommodates a lock 7 having a bolt 8 engaging a slot in the side of the carrier covered by a plate 9. Instead of the abutment 11, parts of the carrier body may be partially cut out and upset to form a series of projecting lugs, or separate lugs may be applied to the carrier body.
