Abstract

566,456. Paper string. WATSON, J. H.,. ANDERSON, H. E., and ANGEL, E. R. Aug. 5, 1944, No. 12896/43. [Class 140] [Also in Group XXV] String, binder twine, &c., produced from paper yarn, which may be that treated after the last wet pressing and before drying with a solution of the constituents of a polymerizable artificial resin and thereafter set by heating, as described in Specification 553,122, is coated or impregnated with 2¢ to 3 per cent of its dry weight of a partially-condensed thermosetting artificial resin, e.g. urea-formaldehyde or phenolformaldehyde, and is then drawn through a heated die, e.g. at 130‹ C., to effect further condensation and bonding, which may be completed by additional heat treatment. The string may be passed through a solution of the resin, and then through rolls to adjust the quantity of solution taken up before passing through the die.
