Abstract

566,355. Sizing hollow bodies by pressure. WRETBLAD, P. E. F. April 30, 1943, No. 6870. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Hollow bodies, such as porous bearing bushes, have the bore brought to size without appreciably closing the pores by mounting the body on a mandrel, preferably of hard polished metal and compressing it from the outer surface. A porous bush a, that may have been made from sintered powders, is impreg. nated with oil and placed on a mandrel b which sizes the bore when a punch c forces the bush through a die d. In modifications, the closure on the mandrel is effected by converging pressures from dies in a press or by hammering. The bore need not be of circular cross-section.
