Abstract
566,224. Treating seeds and grain. ROBINSON & SON, Ltd., T., and ORMEROD, H. July 7, 1943, No. 11052. [Class 58] [Also in Groups II and XXX] A machine for dressing seeds or grain to protect them from disease or insects comprises a pivotally mounted grain feed hopper a which, when the rate of the supply of grain to the machine falls below a predetermined minimum, tilts about its pivot e under the influence of a counterbalance weight and thereby stops the operation of the mechanism for feeding the dressing composition. In one construction, Fig. 1 (not shown), the hopper in tilting actuates a mercury switch controlling the motor which drives the feeding device for the dressing composition. In the construction shown, the hopper is connected to a centrally pivoted lever w, the bottom bifurcated end y of which embraces a lever z fulcrumed on a clutchoperating lever 2. When the hopper tilts under the influence of the weight j, the lever z is moved clockwise, Fig. 3, and a pivoted arm 4 carried by the lever is moved into the path of a lug 5 of a disc 7 which revolves with a sleeve 8 upon which a clutch part 9 is keyed. The abutment thus rotates the lever 2 in a clockwise direction and the lever thereby disengages the part 9 from the driving pulley 10. The drive for the feed for the dressing composition ceases until the hopper returns to its initial position, such movement bringing an arm 3 into the path of an abutment 6 on the pulley 10 and thereby returning the clutch to the position shown. A spring-controlled lever 12 serves to produce a snap action on the lever 2.
