Class 143 [Also in Groups XIX and XXXII] An automatic feed weigher has a rotary compartmented weighing receptacle which is freed to rotate on disengagement of a catch mechanism by an auxiliary control device operated by movement of the weigh beam. The beam 14, pivoted at 15, supports an adjustable counterweight 17 and a rotary compartmented drum 12 which has resiliently secured thereto a catch plate 18, co-operating with a latch member 20 on a counterbalanced lever 21 pivoted at 22, in such a manner that downward movement of the member 20 allows the drum to rotate through 90 degrees, whilst, during weighing, the beam 14 and lever 21 constitute a parallelogram guide linkage for the drum. A lever 26, mounted on a fixed pivot 27 and resting on a fixed projection 28, co-operates with studs 25 on the drum to prevent reverse rotation. When the drum contains a predetermined amount of material, nozzles 29, 32 are aligned, and compressed air, continuously fed through a pipe 30 to nozzle 29, enters nozzle 32, so moving a diaphragm 34 downwardly until, through an abutment 36, it pivots lever 21 and so disengages member 20 from plate 18, whereupon the drum 18 revolves. This downward movement of lever 21 is transmitted through a link 38 to nozzle 32 which then swings, about a pivot 33, out of alignment with nozzle 29, so allowing diaphragm 34 to contract, and arm 21 to rise. A spring 40 and dashpot 42 (see Group XXXI) control return movement of the nozzle 32. The pulses of compressed air are also communicated to diaphragm chamber 56 through a pipe 55 which, like outlet pipe 58, has an adjustable constriction to restrict flow through the chamber to such an extent that the position of the diaphragm tensions the spring 57 in accordance with the rate of operation of the weigher, and thereby compensates for any inaccuracy due to suspended material. The cylinder 45 also receives the pulses of compressed air through a pipe 44, and a piston in this cylinder communicates these pulses through. a rack and pinion 46 to a counter 47; and through a rack and pinion 48, and a threaded rod 49, to a nut 50 bearing a stylus 51. The nut 50 is rotatable, and is in frictional contact with a constantly rotating cone 53 which returns the stylus to its initial position during the interval between weighings. A spring 43 is provided to stabilize the beam. In a modification (not shown) the movement of the beam is sensed by a mercury switch energizing an electromagnet which replaces the diaphragm 34.
