Automatic-feed weighers. -Scales for automatically weighing granular &c. substances are provided with means whereby the amount of material in the supply hopper controls through mechanism the operation of the weigh-hopper discharge door, so that, when the supply falls below a predetermined minimum, the discharge door is held open until the supply of grain &c. has been increased, when the operations of the scale are automatically restarted. A plate 6 is pivotally mounted on a shaft 4 within the supply hopper 5, and a weighted arm 7 on the shaft 4 is connected by a link 9 to a lever 11 which is fulcrumed on a bracket 13 on the tramework 14 of the scale and connected by a bolt 15 to a vertical rod 16. An arm 17 on the rod 16 is connected by a pin-and-slot connexion 19, 20 to a vertical bar 18 or equivalent device arranged adjacent the side of the weigh hopper 22 with its lower end near the rear linkage 23 of the pivoted discharge door 24 of the hopper. The bar 16 is guided at its lower end by a pin 26, and the bar 18 near its lower end runs between guide-rollers 28. When there is sufficient grain &c. in the hopper to permit of the continued operation of the scale, the bevelled lower end 21 of the bar 18 is held out of the path of the linkage 23, but when the supply of grain &c. falls below the predetermined minimum, the pivoted plate 6 automatically moves upwardly and lowers the bar 18 so that its end 21 is in the path of the linkage 23 and holds the door 24 open. The bar 18 may be pivotally connected direct to the arm 7; and instead of a plate 6, a trough, smallmesh sieve, or other form of baffle may be used.
