In means for maintaining constant the delivered weight of dispensed material in volumetric measuring machines, a device measures out sample portions diverted from the feed supply and delivers them to a control device at the appropriate time to provide corrective adjustment of both the dispensing means and the measuring-out device. Fluent material is fed through pipe 1 into chamber 11 the lower part of which is rotatable on shaft 6. The material fills cups D which are constructed of two telescopic cylindrical portions 2, 2a and closed by flaps 30. The cups are adjustable by movement of support 7 up or down shaft 6 through motor 17-operated linkage 18, 19. This movement is also imparted by link 5 to a further adjustable cup 4, 4a situated in a branch 3 of the feed pipe. This is the check-weighing measuring- out cup and is regulated by slides 8 and 9. The measured volume of material is passed to holder 10 attached to a weigh-beam 12, any weight discrepancy causing energization of controller 16 through one or other of contacts 15. The weighed sample portion is discharged through opening 13 into the dispensing chamber. The system is arranged so that a change in density in the material passing through the feed pipe effects, through the controller and, if necessary, with a delay, an adjustment in the volume of the dispensing cups as the changed density material reaches them, thus maintaining a constant dispensed weight. Linkage 5 provides follow-up control of the measuring-out device. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the measuring-out device is similar, but the dispensing chamber is replaced by a delivery screw and the cups by a dispensing screw the speed of the latter being varied by the controller. In Fig. 4 (not shown) is a further embodiment in which the delivery means, the measuring-out device and the dispensing means all utilize screw feeds. The weigh beam, instead of moving between contacts, may be arranged to operate photo-electric, capacitive or inductive detecting devices.
