565,993. Apparatus for removing surgical plasters. MULLETT, G. E. May 19, 1944, No. 7963/43. [Class 81 (ii)] An apparatus for removing plaster from a human or animal body comprises a cutter 2, secured to one end of a spindle 3 mounted at opposite ends in bearings 9, 10 in a casing 4 to which is secured a manipulating handpiece 1, the cutter being partly enclosed in a housing 8, provided at one end of the casing 4 and being arranged in close proximity to a metal or other guide 6 secured to a curved blade attached to the housing 8. The cutter 2 is driven by a flexible shaft 12, which engages the spindle 3 by a key-and-groove connection 13, 14 and is held rotatably to the casing 4 by a cap 15 screwed thereto, a ball bearing 16 being provided. The motor 11, which drives the shaft 12, may be driven directly from mains or through a transformer, suitable reduction or multiplying gear being provided between the motor 11 and cutter 2. The cutter may be replaced by a grinding wheel with a periphery of carborundum &c.
