Abstract

A surgical suture is formed from a length of metallic material and is provided with a sharpened end adapted to act as the suturing needle. A length of stainless steel wire, of e.g. No. 40 S.W.G., is shaped, sharpened, hardened and tempered at one end to provide the combined needle and metallic suture. The needle end may be curved or straight. After the suturing operation, the needle end is cut off with scissors &c. In a modification, both ends of the suture material are formed as needles, the length of wire therebetween being cut to provide two units.
