[Class 46] A directly exposed strainer structure adapted to be placed in the reservoir for the tool lubricating and cooling fluid of a machine tool, such as a grinding machine, comprises a strainer element formed by top and bottom plates and an external reticular wall enclosing a pervious strainer mass, this strainer element being fixed on a collecting chamber for the cleaned fluid of substantial capacity and internally unobstructed and with discharge means for the cleaned fluid. The pervious strainer mass is formed by a knitted metallic mesh fabric, for example, a tubular knit mesh, which is first flattened and then corrugated in an oblique manner, superposed strips with the corrugations of one strip lying across those of another strip then being rolled to an annular body shape 23 which is retained between top and bottom plates 12, 14 and apertured inner and outer cylindrical walls 21, 20 of metallic mesh. Within the inner cylindrical mesh wall 21 is disposed an apertured tube 27 which serves as a fluid conduit and has a screw nut 28, whereby the strainer. element A is attached to a nipple 29 on the collecting chamber 10, this nut also serving to secure the strainer element assembly by pressure on the bottom plate 14, the top plate 12 being engaged by a shouldered plug 25 fixed to the top of the tube 27. The cleaned fluid is delivered by a pump 38 connected to the discharge outlet 36 of the collecting chamber.
