Abstract

855,929. Magnetic separators. THOMA, J. U. Aug. 1, 1958 [Aug. 2, 1957], No. 44388/59. Divided out of 855,928. Class 117 A magnetic separator for extracting magnetizable foreign bodies from fluids such as lubricating oils, coolants &c., is provided with a magnetic element as described in Specification 855,928. A tube 7 of non-magnetizable material has groups of perforations 12 at each end and, with the tube 1 of the magnetic element, forms a sedimentation chamber. A washer 9 divides a space between the perforated tube 7 and the outer casing 6 into upper and lower compartments. Dirty fluid entering by an inlet 10 flows through the lower set of perforations 12 into the sedimentation chamber and out through the upper set of perforations after having flowed over the exterior surface of the magnetic element. Cleaned fluid leaves the upper compartment through an outlet 11. Metal impurities which collect on the exterior of the tube 1 may be wiped, off after its withdrawal from the casing, or a scraper (not shown situated in the sedimentation chamber, may be used.
