Abstract

564,470. Dish-washing apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 2, 1943, No. 10751. Convention date, July 3, 1942. [Class 138 (i)] [Also in Groups VIII and XXIX] A dish-washing machine comprises a vat 15 in which liquid is circulated by an impeller 16 driven by an electric motor, the stator 17 of which tends to rotate clockwise due to the reaction torque exerted thereon which is a function of the amount of liquid being circulated in the vat, and the reaction torque controls the supply of liquid to the vat by releasing a latching means which holds open a valve which normally closes under pressure. As shown in Fig. 4, the valve rod 20 is held in open position of the valve by a lever 22 held by engagement of a spring-pressed pin 27 on the lever 22 with a latch 26 connected to the stator 17. The lever 22 is moved to open the valve by means of a cam 25 operated by a control knob 23 and a flexible connection 24. The cam 25 is returned to the position shown in Fig. 4, when the catch 26 holds the lever 22. The catch is maintained in position by a spring 31 surrounding a guide bolt which limits the counter-clockwise movement of the catch. At a certain value of the torque reaction, the catch 26 moves to the dotted line position, and the valve then closes under pressure.
