Abstract

563,877. Gas turbines. WARMSLEY, W.'J. May 10, 1943, No. 7365. [Class 110 (iii)] In a jet-wheel turbine, the rotor pockets 27 ... 29 and the one or more stator pockets 36 have separate supply and exhaust ports for explosive gas. The inlet pipe 50, and the exhaust pipe 50a, may be adjusted by sliding plates 48, 48a respectively in curved slots 49, 49a. The plates are locked by screws 52, 52a. Inlet and exhaust ports 53 for each pocket 36 are controlled by ported end discs 10. One or more sparking plugs 38 may be supplied to each pocket 36 and may fire in turn. To prevent reverse rotation of the rotor 1, a pawl 60, pivoted at 62, may coact with notches 61. The pawl may be raised clear of the rotor by a screw 65. Means may be provided for varying the size of the inlet and exhaust ports for the gas. The inside peripheral surface of the working chamber may be barrel-shaped in crosssection. A water jacket is supplied. The head of the combustion chamber 36 is adjustable. Discs 10, bolted to the ends of the rotor, have marginal portions 11 overlying the adjacent end surfaces of the annular portion 9 of the body 8. Sealing discs 12, 13 are provided on the stator end walls and packing rings 16 ... 19. Lubrication ducts 23, 24 lead to the peripheries of the discs 10, lubricant being exhausted through ducts 25, 26. Further ducts 23a, 24a lead to the rotor periphery. The shape of the rotor pockets may be varied. A number of turbines may be arranged end to end and operate in series, the rotors being in separate stators, or in one common stator, the firing means being arranged to secure good balance.
